Impact of Climate Conditions on Pollutant Concentrations in the Effluent from a One-Stage Constructed Wetland: A Case Study

This paper reports the results of an investigation into influence precipitation and air temperature on efficiency pollutant removal processes effluent concentrations in a one-stage constructed wetland with subsurface vertical flow. We studied on-site system that used Phragmites australis for treatment domestic wastewater. The was located central Europe, south-east Poland, temperate climate zone transitional features. Physico-chemical analyses influent wastewater, as well measurements were carried out years 2001–2010. It shown plant significantly higher growing season than outside (the mean is usually few percent but generally this parameter highly varied). indicated determined wastewater treatment. found amount affected concentration pollutants effluent. more rainfall there was, lower content from plant, which demonstrated rainwater diluted treated wastewater—thus improving plant.
